Medical lab in Shenzhen University needs volunteers for its test on Wednesday 7th October and Thursday 8th October. The aim of this study is to determine the accuracy of devices called pulse oximeters which measure blood oxygen by shining light through skin, without requiring blood sampling. But the real meaning of your involvement is to help us to check the devices developed by the companies are working on the people of your race or not. Your support and help can stop the bad devices going into the market. Your contributions to this medical research thus serves a big purpose!
You will have a small plastic tube placed in a wrist artery under local anesthesia. Standard and test pulse oximeters will be attached to your fingers, forehead or ears. You will be asked to rapidly breathe in and out of a hose through a mouthpiece, with a nose clip on your nose. The gas you will breathe will be adjusted to lower your blood oxygen saturation from its normal value of 95% - 98% to as low as 70%. During the process 20-25 small blood samples (each less than 2 ml) will be taken from the wrist arterial catheter, for a total of less than 50ml of blood.
An amount of 600 RMB will be paid for a completed test which normally takes about 45 mins.

Please note:
- all Ethnics are welcomed but age must be between 21 - 40. We need at least 3 whites, 3 blacks, 3 Asian, 3 males and 3 females to complete the test.
- No smokers please.
- ladies wearing no nail polish on the day please
- volunteers shall eat breakfast and lunch before the test
- basic medical checking will be carried out to determine the health conditions.
