Organization Description:
Officially opened on September 2013, ShanghaiTech University is a small-scale research university of academic excellence jointly established by Shanghai Municipal Government and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). ShanghaiTech is dedicated to be a research university of academic excellence and a dynamic people centered hub where innovative research, education, and community service meet to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and to solving global challenges.
Located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, ShanghaiTech is close to various industries and venture companies. It is also near several large science facilities, including the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, the National Facility of Protein Science in Shanghai, the National Drug Screening Platform and the Shanghai Center for Microsatellites.
Job Description:
We are searching for postdoctoral researchers who will be involved in the synthesis and assembly of nanomaterials. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Franklin Kim.
Research conducted within the group will be more geared toward fundamental science, such as developing methods for controlling nanoparticle morphology and understanding self-assembly behavior of nanomaterial at an interface. However, we will also actively pursue practical application of the produced nanostructures, particularly in the field of energy storage and biosensing, mostly through collaboration within and outside the institute.
Experience in the following topics will receive stronger consideration.
- Synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles
- Preparation and modification of 2-D nanosheets
- Assembly of nanoparticles on air-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces
- Langmuir-Blodgettry
- Energy-storage devices
- Biosensing
Successful candidates will be able to interact with world-class scientists from diverse fields and have access to state-of-the-art research instruments. As a member of an early stage group, the researcher will participate in various aspects of building up a new lab, which can become a valuable experience when moving on to the next stages in their career.
Preferred requirements:
- Ph. D. degree in chemistry related fields (chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, etc.)
- Experience in synthesis, processing, and characterization of nanomaterials
- Experience in assembly of nanomaterials into higher order structures
- Comfortable with making scientific discussions in English
