1. Design and deliver English for Academic Purposes class...Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and deliver English for Academic Purposes classes based on the NCUK Learning Outcomes and the SBC Scheme of Work.
2. Provide useful and prompt feedback on students’ work in class and in Office Hours.
3. Follow all administrative procedures for recording student attendance and results.
4. Mark assessments to standard and within the set deadlines.
5. Contribute to the development of classroom and assessment materials as needed.
6. Take part in meetings, standardisation sessions and other workshops as needed.
7. Invigilate exams following SBC procedures.
8. Contribute to the overall development of the college through participation in entrance exams and other activities.
Essential Qualifications:
1. Relevant masters.
2. Initial ELT qualification, e.g. CELTA or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
2 years plus in a higher education context post DELTA or equivalent.
Essential Skills and Experience:
1. Familiarity with the methods, practices and techniques of communicative language teaching and able to locate these within an academic context and relate them to teaching the language and skills required by academic tasks and processes.
2. The ability to contribute to integrated teaching across the curriculum.
3. The ability to assess academic language and skills tasks using formative and summative assessment.
4. A high level of systemic language knowledge.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
1. Reasonable knowledge of the organizational, educational and communicative policies, practices, values and conventions of universities.
2. Understanding of the role of critical thinking and student autonomy in academic contexts.
3. Understanding of the main types of language syllabus and the ability to transform a syllabus into an effective programme to meet students’ need
