Job Description:
A teacher with at least two years of primary school teaching experience is needed to teach an advanced primary school reading and writing program that’s based around the most distinguished classic and contemporary novels in English. Learning focuses are reading, vocabulary, comprehension, and literary analysis. Grade 2-6 students study one full novel in depth over five sessions. Sessions are typically 3 hours long. Classes involve guided reading, group discussions, and written responses. The writing portion of the course includes stories, essays and five-point articles.*A degree from a Top 25 (overall) American university or a prestigious university in the U.K. is strictly required.

Students:
Our students come from local and international schools and range from Grades Kindergarten to 6. The maximum class size is eight students.

Hours and Location:
The teaching location(s) are in the Hongqiao area of Puxi and/or the Century Park area of Pudong. Working hours will fall somewhere between 8.45am-6pm on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Teacher Requirements:

The teacher must currently reside in China.
The teacher must currently hold a valid China work visa.
The teacher must be available for work during weekends, holidays and summer months.
The teacher must have at least two years of primary school teaching experience, in particular in teaching elementary school/primary school literature and writing to beyond standard grade level. Experience of teaching English literature and writing to non-native and/or bilingual students, at a high level, is ideal.
*A degree from a Top 25 (overall) American university or a prestigious university in the U.K. is strictly required.
A major in English literature is preferred but not essential. What is essential is broad understanding and knowledge of children’s literature; the ability to teach the analysis of literature; the ability to connect the analysis of literature to the teaching of writing; and experience of teaching literature and writing to young children.
The teacher must be willing and able to teach mixed-age groups, for example, a group composed of students from Grades K-2 or 2-5 whose reading levels are similar.
The teacher must be must be highly organized, patient, flexible and able to work independently.
The teacher must be a proponent of the philosophy that it is possible to teach non-native speakers using native level materials, and that non-native speakers can be guided to performance at levels far beyond what are considered standard grade level expectations. Ideally a track record in this area will prove this commitment.
The teacher must lead a clean and healthy lifestyle that will enable her/him to function at high levels at the weekends.
