Job Summary
Benedem Education of Seoul is seeking a dedicated and creative Elementary and Middle School Art Teacher/ELL Teacher to join our vibrant educational team. The ideal candidate will have experience in international schools, a passion for fostering creativity, and a commitment to nurturing students in grades 1-8 through engaging art and English language learning experiences. Candidates with experience integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into instruction are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Classroom Management:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging art and English language lessons that facilitate creative expression and active learning.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that adhere to curriculum standards and incorporate SEL.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all activities and projects in both art and ELL/ESL classes.
Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in the classroom.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment equipped for artistic exploration and language acquisition.
Student Assessment and Evaluation:
Assess and record students’ progress in artistic skills, language development, and understanding of concepts.
Provide constructive feedback to foster improvement in creativity and English proficiency.
Evaluate students’ performance and development regularly, adapting teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
SEL Integration:
Incorporate SEL activities and lessons into art and ELL instruction, promoting self-expression, emotional growth, and confidence in language use.
Create a supportive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages individuality and collaboration.
Art and Language Skills Development:
Teach foundational art techniques in various mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
Develop English language skills through engaging, interactive activities focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Encourage experimentation with materials, themes, and language to develop creativity and critical thinking.
Foster an appreciation for art history, diverse cultural perspectives in art, and global contexts in language learning.
Collaboration and Communication:
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about students’ artistic and language development progress.
Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-curricular learning through art and language integration.
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings to share ideas and strategies.
Professional Development:
Stay current with trends and best practices in art and ELL education through ongoing professional development.
Participate in training and development sessions as required.
Additional Duties:
Supervise students during recess, and school transitions as needed.
Lead one after-school enrichment class per week.
Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and community engagement projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, TESOL, Fine Arts, English Language Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Valid teaching certification/license for the state of English-speaking countries or equivalent international certification.
Experience:
Proven experience as an art and/or ELL teacher, preferably in an international school setting.
Experience with diverse student populations and inclusion practices.
Skills:
Strong artistic abilities and proficiency in various mediums and techniques.
Proficiency in teaching English as a second language (TESOL/ELL strategies).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in using technology and digital tools for instruction.
Ability to create an engaging, supportive, and innovative classroom environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
Ability to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Ability to lift and move art supplies and instructional materials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a classroom and school environment.
Occasional evening work may be required for school events, such as exhibitions or open houses (2-3 times a year).
