Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a translation editor for our Chinese-language wire service. You must be capable of working closely with editors and other translators to ensure accurate and timely translation of fast-breaking Dow Jones stories. We will rely on you to select stories and translate flash headlines without excessive oversight. We also will expect you to provide feedback to team leaders and duty editors on translation problems and other issues as they arise. Main Responsibilities Translate and copy edit Dow Jones spot stories, features and market comments in an accurate and timely manner.
Duties will include:
- Produce 4000-4500 Chinese characters of error-free translated news on all asset classes covered by Dow Jones media-money, equities, energy and commodities.
- Adhere to Dow Jones standards on quality, style and news ethics.
- Use news judgment and initiative to ensure that flash headlines are translated, coded and filed within one minute of receipt and fills within 10 minutes of receipt.
- Exercise good news judgment to ensure the most important stories and news events are prioritized in a way that reflects the need of our customers.
- Ensure translated stories are coded properly to meet customer requirements.
- Ensure translated stories are error-free before sending them to clients.
- Monitor official (and other)web sites for breaking news outside office hours when assigned to do so.
- Have a readiness to develop skills in new market areas.Work process:
- Shift work according to the schedule
- Have complete understanding of the translation software
- Ensure that your own training needs are clearly defined and whenever possible attend in-house (and other)training sessions.
- Be flexible and always willing to back up your colleagues as needed
