The ideal candidate will have a crusading desire to report on cultural happenings around China—be they social change, travel, trivia, food, or history. The position requires high research capabilities and the heart of a great story-teller.
Requirements include:
Two years of experience in writing for a print or online publication
A high degree of English-language proficiency
An understanding of modern reporting and writing conventions for features
The ability to work under a deadline toward quality, long form stories
An ability to think creatively and work collaboratively with others
Competency with current affairs and cultural tropes
A good eye for editing design, structure, and Chinese language
Social media and photography experience
Duties include:
Pitching and writing stories for our bi-monthly print publication, as well as for the website
Getting out of the office to cover, research, and photograph magazine and online content
Produce original content
Taking responsibility for the editorial quality of the magazine as a whole
Editing all print stories for grammar, consistency, and accuracy
Working with management to perfect your writing and reporting style
Sticking to a strict publications schedule and dealing with editorial concerns as they arise
The position is a full-time, professional, demanding position that will be a perfect fit for a creative, organized writer and editor looking to make a serious commitment to our print publication. Foreigners are welcome to apply, but an extremely high degree of proficiency in English and Chinese is strongly preferred due to a reliance on original reporting and interviewing.
